Choose US A7 for a simple 5 × 7 inch insert after checking the actual product. Move up when the suite is thick or embellished rather than accepting a borderline fit.

A9 provides more space but is a visibly larger presentation; useful closeness matters more than choosing the largest format that fits.

Clearance and tolerance
Why a positive number can still be too tight
Matcher clearance is applied per edge. Its “remaining” value is the total unused width and height after that allowance. A technically passing result with less than 2 mm remaining on either final dimension is labelled borderline and is never ranked as an ordinary recommendation.
